work experience for young people
Information for EU Students
Folllwing the enlargement of the EU in May 2004, Concordia has continued to take students from the former Eastern European countries.

Condordia applies similar eligibility conditions for applicants as under SAWS - you must:
- Be over 19 years of age at the time of starting work on the scheme
- Be a student on a full-time course of study in your home country
- Remain outside the UK throughout the entire application process
This work is low skilled and includes:
- planting and gathering crops;
- on-farm processing and packing of crops (for example salad vegetables, soft fruit, and flowers); and
- handling livestock (for example, lambing and on-farm poultry processing).
You should be paid at least the national minimum wage for the work and there is no difference in pay between foreign and UK workers.
Individuals may participate in the scheme on more than one occasion provided they continue to be a student in full-time education, and undertake a minimum break of three months between periods of participation.
Unlike non-EU students, you may apply for placements longer than 6 months, providing you obtain written permission from your university. If you are accepted for a Concordia placement, and wish to remain longer than the initial booking, you may be able to extend your placement or transfer to another farm, upon payment of an additional fee.
It is important to note that neither Concordia nor
the farm can guarantee the level of work or earnings. In addition if your
work is not of sufficient quality and you cannot earn the minimum wage
your employer is not obliged to continue employing you. If this happens
you are unlikely to be offered work on another Concordia farm. If the
work on your farm runs out before the end of your work period, Concordia
may be able to transfer you to another farm. However, this is not guaranteed
and will depend both on the vacancies elsewhere and whether your farmer
recommends you as being a hard worker.
UK work placements available
Concordia has placements on farms in the UK starting between now and mid-June. If this is of interest to you and you have working rights in the UK, then please e-mail students@concordia-
ysv.org.uk with your name, date of birth, contact details and the dates you are available.
We regret that if you are a Romanian or Bulgarian national, all our SAWS work cards for 2008 have been allocated and we will not be able to offer you a placement.
Visa Information:
You will require a visa to work in the UK. Please allow enough time
to apply to ensure you arrive at the start of the work placement. If
you are travelling to the UK over land you will also need a valid Schengen
visa. For more information
on UK visa requirements please click here.
